Issue 45, spring / summer 2016, of the ALEO magazine, ALEO News, is now available to download from the ALEO website at:
http://www.aleo.org.uk/magazine.

This is the first edition of our magazine under our new identity of the Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO). Prior to this, the magazine was known as Carbon Action News.

We are delighted to say that this edition is sponsored by Happy Energy and its local government-focused Home Energy Action Taskforce (HEAT) Project.
(Please see the magazine as well as the details below on the HEAT Project, and for more info visit: http://happyenergy.co.uk/heatproject.)

The magazine contains a mix of best practice articles on domestic energy efficiency and fuel poverty from around the UK, as well as the Carbon Action Network’s (now ALEO) Annual Report, for the period 2014-15, and regional ALEO and CAN reports for this year.

All of the past issues of the magazine can also be downloaded from http://www.aleo.org.uk/magazine. The ALEO magazine is now published three times a year.

Many thanks to our sponsor and everyone who contributed to this issue!

Comment from Adrian Wright of Happy Energy:
"We are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the first edition of the ALEO Magazine. As a team that has many years’ experience of working with Local Authority Energy Officers right across the UK, it is really pleasing to be supporting the launch of the new ALEO Magazine in tandem with the launch of the new HEAT Project, which works with Local Authorities to a deliver truly effective, professional and experienced energy advice service to help lower household energy bills that is completely free to the Authority"

The HEAT Project (Home Energy Action Taskforce) is a local authority led service, offering local residents a one-stop-shop for energy advice and access to grants to make their home warmer and reduce their energy bills.
The HEAT Project began in 1997 and since then has led to over 300,000 homes receiving an energy saving upgrade through previous partnerships with 116 local authorities.
Now managed by award-winning Happy Energy, the HEAT Project has been re-launched to offer local authorities a simple way to signpost householders in their districts to a free phone service where trained energy advisors will confirm which grants and other assistance may be available to help them stay warmer and have lower energy bills.
The success of the HEAT Project is simple, the service is completely free for local authorities yet brings significant financial and social benefit into the district. A simple one page memorandum of understanding lays out the terms of the services to be provided, minimising legal and procurement red tape and as the service is non exclusive and can work alongside other services helping customers in the district and where necessary make referrals to these services if this provides the best outcome for the customer.

HEAT Project Benefits:
  • A freephone service for local authorities to direct their local residents for energy advice and to benefit from grant funded energy saving works
  • Proactive marketing of the service funded and managed by Happy Energy to include mail shots, social media, attendance at local events and other advertising
  • Use of local installers to maximise the financial benefits to the local community
  • Provision of dedicated ECO funding including CERO, CSCO and HHCRO, offering customers grants for insulation and heating works
  • Proactive targeting of low income households to help those most at risk of fuel poverty
  • An independent online and telephone based fuel switching advisory service
  • Full access for local authorities to reports on works carried out, CO2 saved and customers assisted
  • Wider help and guidance for able to pay customers for non-grant funded energy saving upgrades including renewable energy technologies
  • Integration as required with local authority energy supply services
  • Ability to manage and promote other local authority services and grant schemes
