2015 UK Greenhouse Gas Emissions Final Figures Published

BEIS has published final UK greenhouse gas emissions statistics for the period 1990 to 2015 showing that the UK is on track to meet its Second Carbon Budget.

According to the statistics, UK total greenhouse gas emissions had fallen 38 per cent in 2015, from 1990 levels, with a four per cent drop from 2014 to 2015. This reduction is mainly due to a decrease in coal consumption in power stations.

Residential greenhouse gas emissions fell 17 per cent between 1990 and 2015, although there was a 4 per cent increase from 2014 to 2015. BEIS put the increase in household emissions, based largely on gas use for cooking and heating, down to a cooler year in 2015 than 2014.
