58% of tenants have had their request to make energy efficiency improvements refused

According to a new survey of 500 tenants, conducted by online letting agent PropertyLetByUs.com, around 58% have had their request to make energy efficiency improvements refused by their landlord.

From 1 April 2016, the new Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015, established a new right for domestic private rented sector tenants, whereby they can request permission from their landlord to install energy efficiency improvements in the property they rent, and the landlord cannot unreasonably refuse consent.

The survey report also shows that over half of tenants claim their rental property is cold and draughty, 76% of tenants claim the property they rent has an old gas boiler that is unreliable, and 48% say their property does not have double glazing.
