UK ERC: LAs Play Key Role in Clean Energy Provision

A report published by the UK Energy Research Centre and the Energy Technologies Institute, on 17 November 2017, undertaken by the University of Edinburgh, has mapped energy plans and initiatives across all UK local authorities.
The report finds that local authorities are uniquely placed to play a significant role in achieving the UK goal of developing a low-carbon economy, and that LAs are particularly active in heat and energy efficiency. These are typically areas where they can plan and coordinate action, but which are proving difficult for central government policy. LA partnerships with community organisations and the private sector, also demonstrate alternative business models for energy provision.
