Autumn Budget 2017 - Feed-in Tariff scheme to close April 2019

The Chancellor of the Exchequer presented his Autumn Budget to Parliament on 22 November 2017.

The Budget includes the following policy announcements:

• In order to protect consumers, the government will not introduce new low carbon electricity levies until the burden of such costs are falling.There will be no new low carbon electricity levies until 2025. All existing commitments will be respected.
• Fuel duty – Fuel duty will be frozen for an eighth year in 2018-19
• The Liquefied Petroleum Gas rate will be frozen in 2018-19
• The government will provide £220 million for a new Clean Air Fund. This will allow local authorities in England with the most challenging pollution problems to help individuals and businesses adapt as measures to improve air quality are implemented.
• Policies aimed at reducing plastics waste and tackling waste crime
• Electricity used for charging electric vehicles at work will not be treated as a benefit-in-kind

In addition to the main Budget document, the Treasury has also published a document titled Control for Low Carbon Levies, providing further detail on the commitment not to introduce new low carbon electricity levies until the burden of such costs are falling. This document states that this does not mean there will be a cap or set budget for low carbon electricity levies, and that the Control does not rule out future support for any technology.

Notably, Table 1.D: 'Central estimates of relevant prices', from this document, states that the Feed-in Tariff scheme is due to close in April 2019.
