NEA comments on PRS landlord spending cap

National Energy Action (NEA) has commented on the Private Rented Sector (PRS) Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) and the proposed landlord spending cap, which it says "risk being watered down by the Private Landlord lobby".
The current BEIS consultation, for which the deadline to respond is 13 March 2018, proposes a cap on costs to private landlords to improve the energy efficiency of each of their properties of £2,500. However, prior to the launch of the consultation it had been widely expected that the Government would follow the advice of its own Committee on Fuel Poverty which has recommended a cost cap of £5,000.
NEA also comments that the regulations will offer no protections for the most vulnerable children living in Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and highlights its new analysis of the English Housing Survey, which shows that "over 430,000 of the poorest children are living in rented properties that are impossible to keep warm".
