New Sustainable Home Building Standard Announced

A new Home Quality Mark (HQM) has been announced that will replace the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The HQM has been developed by BRE, and is intended as a mark of reassurance and quality for people who will live in a new-build home.

Wherever possible, common assessment methodologies will be used including the use of an extended Building Regulations calculation, Passivhaus certification and more detailed dynamic performance modelling, as appropriate, to calculate a number of performance characteristics relating to energy, comfort and overheating.

Houses will be given an overall rating based on a scale of up to 5 stars, to allow quick and easy comparison of their overall performance.
