Summary of CAN's written response to Energy & Climate Change Select Committee inquiry

Post by ALEO Admin » Mon Aug 17, 2015 12:45 pm

CAN responded to the recent Energy and Climate Change Select Committee’s recent call for views on priorities for how it should best hold DECC to account, both in the next 12 months and over the lifetime of this Parliament.

Our immediate concern was over successor programmes for the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation and the particular plight of people in hard to insulate homes, until now badly served by funding programmes.

Between now and 2020 we believe that the committee should monitor progress against both the government’s fuel poverty strategy and energy efficiency standards in the private rented sector, and the impact of social security reform on fuel poverty. We highlighted the role of local delivery in effective fuel poverty programmes, referring to the committee to the Scottish model in particular, and also the crucial importance of engaging the health and social care sectors. Finally we raised CAN’s long-standing concerns about the fair allocation of energy efficiency funds to rural and metropolitan areas.

CAN will continue to engage with all stakeholders to put across the above concerns and work for a sustainable, fair domestic energy efficiency strategy.
