Environmental Alliance's Joint Letter to PM
Posted: Fri Jul 31, 2015 2:59 pm
An alliance of leading environmental organisations have sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister criticising the scrapping or watering-down of ten different environmental policies, within the new Government's first three months in power.
The letter cites the ending of the Renewables Obligation for Solar energy and Onshore Wind; changes to the Climate Change Levy; the planned selloff of the Green Investment Bank; the cancellation of the Zero Carbon Homes and Zero Carbon Building initiatives; new rules for vehicle tax; the policy U-turn to allow exploration for shale gas in protected areas; the lifting of a ban on neonicotinoids, linked to declining bee populations; and the end of the Green Deal finance scheme.
The letter also notes that both the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Department for Environment, Food are Rural Affairs, are at risk from disproportionate cuts.
