The topic of land management will be at the forefront of discussions during our Annual Conference on 8 July at the very apt venue, The Springfield Campus including the National Brownfield Institute (NBI) at the University of Wolverhampton. Join us to discuss the outcome of the election on land management, whether it be in relation to housing, transport, energy or nature. We’ll focus on what we need from our Government when it comes to land management, and how we can manage our land to benefit the economy, environment and people.

The latest sub regional fuel poverty figures have just been released. The data is taken from 2022 using LiLEE (which we know has limitations eg those households with an EPC ‘c’ rating or higher are not considered as fuel poor no matter what the income level or energy costs)
By region, the West Midlands has the highest proportion of households identified as fuel poor (19.6%); this compares with the South East at 9.7%
Stoke on Trent has overtaken Birmingham as having the highest % of households in fuel poverty but it’s still grim news for our region.
Birmingham is second for the proportion, but is the English city with the highest total numbers of households in Fuel Poverty (105,201) – that’s 24% of households
Closely followed by Wolverhampton (23%) Coventry (22.2%) Sandwell (22%). The remainder of regions within WMCA are: Dudley (18.8%); Solihull (14.1%); Walsall (21%)
Worcestershire and Warwickshire have also seen increases. The proportion of households identified as fuel poor in Worcestershire is 16.5% and Warwickshire is 16.2%
You can see the full breakdown in the document, broken down by area, parliamentary constituency and LSOA (lower super output area). I’ve looked at some LSOA and it’s useful for identifying particular postcodes areas to help with targeting support
For example, within Birmingham the highest LSOA area shows fuel poverty at 71% of households – the lowest is just 5.3% so well worth diving into the data.
